How it works

The calculator uses the MVTR of your MBB bag, the surface area and the storage duration to determine moisture ingress, then divides by the MAC of each desiccant type.

Standards compliance

Eurostat desiccant products are compliant with IEC 61340-5-1, Mil-D-3464E and J-STD-033. Default MVTR 0.0006 g/100 in²/day corresponds to MIL-PRF-81705E Type III barrier bags. A 20% safety margin is applied automatically.

How to choose the right desiccant?

Silica Gel General use

The most versatile choice for general humidity protection. Effective over a wide humidity range, suitable for most ESD packaging applications. Recommended when no specific constraint applies, a reliable, cost-effective solution for standard storage and transport conditions.

Clay Economy / High volumes

A natural, biodegradable material that provides effective moisture absorption at a lower cost. Well suited for standard industrial applications and high-volume packaging where budget is a key factor. May be sufficient when the humidity target is less strict (≤ 20% RH).

Molecular Sieve Maximum protection

The highest-performance desiccant, recommended when components tolerate almost no residual humidity (≤ 10% RH, MSL 1–3). Its crystalline structure adsorbs moisture deeply and retains it even at elevated temperatures, the right choice for long storage durations or demanding environments.
